The leaves are long and blue-green and have highly variable fall colors. Bark takes on a flaky appearance with age. Cotinus coggygria is a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub native to central China and Europe. It prefers full sun and well-drained soils. Generally, smoke tree can be grown on a wide variety of soil as long as it isn't poorly drained. It can be used in gardens or as a hedge plant either individually or in groups.
