Common Name: peach

Scientific Name:
Family: Rosaceae
Genus: Prunus

Species: persica

Description: This small, fruiting tree is native to China and has been cultivated for many uses including ornamental, as screens, and of course for fruit. There are many different cultivars, and while the species tree itself may grow up to 25 feet tall and wide, the cultivars are generally a smaller and controlled size. Some cultivars are developed solely for the showy early-blooming flowers rather than for the fruit. While the fruit itself is usually edible (unless cultivated otherwise), the leaves may be extremely toxic and should never be ingested.
