bigleaf maple - Acer macrophyllum

Common name: bigleaf maple, Oregon maple

Scientific name:
Family:
Sapindaceae
Genus: Acer
Species: macrophyllum

Hardiness Zone: 6 to 7

Height: 40 to 75 ft
Width: 40 to 75 ft

Description: Bigleaf maple has the largest leaves of any North American maple, from 4 to 10 inches across. This tree can be as wide as it is tall when open-grown, with spread rounded crowns, and branches that grow low to the ground.

This tree's natural habitat is along the west coast from California to Alaska. The bigleaf maple prefers mesic, moist habitats, as it is naturally found in upland riparian zones. Frost tolerance is low, as it does not grow where deep soil freezes before snowfall.
